UPDATE: Fall Festival has been postponed indefinitely. Old Friends awaits delivery of the remains of its honoree, Timely Writer. The fundraiser will occur once Timely Writer has arrived.

My favorite, the BEST, Thoroughbred retirement facility in Kentucky, Old Friends Farm, is hosting a Fall fundraiser. I love this organization and property for so many reasons. If horseracing is your sport and you appreciate the equine athletes as much as you appreciate their ability to run high-octane speeds simply for human entertainment then Old Friends should be known to you.

Michael Blowen is the amazing horse whisperer who founded Old Friends Farm after a long and revered career at the Boston Globe. His profound respect for the horses is evident with every carrot he feeds them. To say the most persnickety horse resident is known to trot across any pasture to greet Michael is no understatement. It’s more like a joy to see.

Whether you’re already in the Lexington, KY region this month or would need to make a plan to travel there for the Fall festival, considering Old Friends’ fundraiser for a weekend getaway is well worth your time.
