Hello, World!
I originally started my StridebyStride blog over ten years ago. A lot has happened since then. Seeing as how I am not a tech savvy person I have zero idea how to access my previous blog content. I will miss that content. I had some amazing interviews and posts relevant to horse racing and empowering young women. But life has its own way of emphasizing how quickly time passes. How messy everything can be. So, today is about starting over. Let’s begin anew without mourning the past and any potential it held any longer.
I recently attended an amazing writers’ conference. Bouchercon, which was held in San Diego and moves around to a different city every year. It was incredibly interesting and enlightening. I heard the fabulous Mr. David Baldacci speak about craft. He loves his characters. I appreciate his respect for them. He had the most helpful advice regarding writing endings to novels. He stated that he writes an ending and then puts a pin in it. Tells his publisher that the ending he’s submitting is not his ending but simply the first ending he’s creating. He then returns to the material in revision and writes his way to the actual ending.
This knowledge blew my mind. I’m currently revising a novel and the ending is killing me when I feel like I should be crushing it. I love this idea of viewing your initial ending as a placeholder until you figure out what your real ending is. Thank you, Mr. David Baldacci for sharing your wisdom. Amazing conference.
